WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BECOME A BELIEVER IN YESHUA?
The Book of Acts tells the story of the good news of Yeshua moving outward from Jerusalem into Judea, Samaria, and eventually the nations.

Along the way, Acts introduces us to people from remarkably different backgrounds: Jews gathered in Jerusalem, Samaritans, an Ethiopian official, a Roman centurion, a businesswoman from Thyatira, a jailer in Philippi, synagogue leaders, philosophers, families, and entire households.
​
Their stories are different, but several responses appear again and again.
​
People hear the good news. They believe in Yeshua. They are called to repent and turn toward God. They openly confess their faith and allegiance to Yeshua, and they respond in baptism.
Acts gives us a biblical picture of what it means to begin following Yeshua the Messiah and to enter a life of discipleship.
THE PATTERN IN ACTS

These five responses provide a biblical picture of how people respond to the good news, enter the path or redemption and salvation, and begin a life of discipleship in Yeshua.

HEAR THE GOOD NEWS
Faith begins when the message is proclaimed and heard.

Throughout Acts, the apostles announce what God has done through Yeshua: His life, death, resurrection, Messiahship, and the forgiveness and restoration God offers through Him.

BELIEVE IN YESHUA THE MESSIAH
Those who hear the good news are invited to trust Yeshua as the promised Messiah and risen Lord.
​
Biblical belief involves more than acknowledging information about Yeshua. It is placing our confidence in Him and entrusting our lives to Him.

REPENT AND TURN TOWARDS GOD
The apostles repeatedly call people to repent.
​
The Hebrew idea of teshuvah carries the sense of turning or returning. Repentance recognizes our sin, turns away from our former direction, and turns toward God in faith and obedience.

CONFESS BY ACKNOWLEDGING YESHUA AS LORD
Faith becomes visible.
​
The earliest believers openly identified themselves with Yeshua and lived under His authority. Their allegiance affected their worship, relationships, priorities, practices, and place within the community of believers.

ENTER THE WATER OF IMMERSION
Baptism appears throughout Acts as the expected response of those who receive the good news.
​
Jews in Jerusalem were baptized. The Ethiopian official was baptized. Cornelius and his household were baptized. The Philippian jailer and his household were baptized.
​
Baptism by immersion publicly identifies the believer with Yeshua and marks the beginning of a new life of discipleship within the community of God's people.
